Woman. Warrior. Writer. Elizabeth Su
How did you come to author your life?
I took Stephanie’s Asian American Women’s Writing class in the fall of 2020 and it was one of the first times in my life I was in a room with all Asian women. Being mixed Asian, I felt self-conscious about this, like I was an imposter. But throughout our time together, I slowly started to feel like I “belonged” and that my voice and experience mattered. Stephanie once said in class “as Asian American women, we often need to write ourselves into existence.” That is everything The Adventure Tarot deck is to me: a window into my self-love journey and a way to declare to the world that I AM PROUD TO BE ASIAN. So really, this deck is for all the mixed kids and immigrant kids and third culture kids who have ever questioned if they were “enough.” It’s for anyone who has struggled to figure out who they are and where they belong <3
Elizabeth Su, MA is the author and creator of The Adventure Tarot, a road trip-inspired deck about self-discovery, belonging, and celebrating Asian joy. She earned her master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Columbia University where she researched burnout and perfectionism. Prior to that, she was busy hustling for her worth at a Silicon Valley start-up. Her work has been featured in, among others, the Los Angeles Times, POPSUGAR, and Bustle.

Words & Wisdom Keeana Villamar
Keeana Villamar, a first-generation college student at Scripps College graduates spring 2025. Her family survived the Lahaina fires of 2023:
“Your time is up!” is the reality for many Maui fire victims, including my family who lost their home, and whose rental assistance will soon expire. Instead of peace a year after the fires, many feel anxious and afraid that permanent housing is far from sight. When visiting Maui, it’s important to be mindful that the beaches, restaurants, and beautiful sights to see, are all part of an ongoing struggle for many fire victims. I empathize with those who go to work everyday, scared and anxious, but do so with a smile to the public.
In my family, the following people have been displaced and confront the aftermath of the fire: Rogelio(81) Grandfather, Luzviminda (79) Grandmother, Alma(55) Mother, Marcelo (52) Father, Yna Louisse (28) Sister, Mark Collin (16) Brother. Everyone except my brother and I are immigrants from the Philippines.
My family has to vacate the space in February 2025 and the contract with FEMA, like many other families, is unable to be extended. At least with FEMA, my knowledge is that they assist families for around 1 year or so, then they must vacate the property.
Please consider a Gofundme donation to Keeana’s family.
